Ask Yourself

Last year my life was out of control. A lady came into my life who has been, as she recently said, working with me towards "building better relationships". That wasn't clear to me at the time. There was too much chaos.

I tell you this because there are a few questions she would ask me and encourage me to ask myself which I continue to do. I would like to share these:

What is going well?
Have I done everything I can?
What do I want?

Also, half way through last year I came across http://www.open.edu/openlearn/ and discovered I could complete short tasters of the Open Universities full time courses. I chose to work though some of the psychology and Social care courses.

It was here I went over the questioning technique of asking yourself why? Once you have an answer ask yourself why? again. Continue this technique for as many why's? as possible!

For example:

Why am I feeling happy? Because I have written this blog post.
Why have I written this blog post? Because I want to share my story.
Why do I want to share my story? Because other people may find it helpful to 'hear' my story.

So on and so forth!

Name That Emotion

The title of this blog relates to a technique I have started using.

A while ago I took a  six week course of CBT where I was first shown an emotion wheel to help me 'Name That Emotion'. I went home and googled emotion wheel and found the one to your right which has as lot more vocabulary.

The CBT work I was given tended to focus on Situation/feelings - Thoughts - Emotions. For example you will find the ABC Worksheet  I was given @ this link: ABC Worksheet.

You will see the word feelings and emotions in the previous sentence. Do you think they are the same thing? I did, which confused me.

It is said they are different. How? Emotions are a bodily response and feelings are a mindful response to that emotion. You can read more about it here: Whats the Difference Between Feelings and Emotions.
